Stronger Together - Seattle
I've been reflecting a lot on racial injustice the last few weeks. It's important to continue to self educate ourselves on systemic racism, use our voices and take action. I've had a lot of 1:1 conversations with people around me and I've helped in other ways such as donating to organizations who are trying to make change happen, supporting local Black owned businesses, helping clean up my city after the looting and raising awareness on my social platform @fitbyslam.
Many of you know that art is a big part of my life. Last weekend, I walked around downtown Seattle and saw all the artwork painted on the boarded up windows. Spur of the moment inspiration hit me when I saw the BLM fist logo. I've seen it many times, but this time was different. The bottom half of the fist reminded me of the top of the Space Needle and I thought "why not incorporate the Space Needle into that logo to reflect some Seattle pride and bring our community closer together?"
I hand sketched a draft and had my friend digitally convert it for me. Then...I had a bigger idea to help empower the movement through art. I am printing this on t-shirts/hoodies and donating 100% of the proceeds to ACLU (where I have set recurring donations to). I will also have my company do a 1:1 match for whatever we are able to raise. This movement has been dear to my heart and I want to make an impact in a creative way.
I’ve never done a project like this before, but I want to help and willing to learn. So, I am asking you to help spread the word and share this post :) t-shirts and hoodies can be purchased using this link: teechip.com/fitbyslam
For transparency, the cost to produce the items can be found here and any profit above the base cost will be donated to ACLU. I am running this campaign through the end of July.
Sharing my initial concept sketch and a sample of what the final product will look like. I'll keep everyone updated via blog.
Onwards and upwards, stronger together.
